If your smile flaws have you feeling down, there are a couple routes you can take to achieve the look you’ve always wanted: porcelain veneers or Lumineers. How does each procedure work, and which would be better for your situation? Continue reading to get the answers you’re looking for from an experienced cosmetic dentist!

What are Porcelain Veneers?

Custom designed and crafted from the highest quality ceramics, porcelain veneers are thin shells that fit directly over the front-facing teeth to mask minor aesthetic flaws. The process starts with the cosmetic dentist removing a thin layer of enamel to allow the veneers to fit symmetrically into your smile line. Then, bite impressions and measurements are taken and sent to an in-network lab that will fabricate the permanent veneers. Meanwhile, you’ll be fitted with a set of temporary shells to protect your teeth. When the permanent veneers return, you’ll visit again to have them permanently placed.

Who are Veneers Better Suited for?

Veneers are versatile in that they can address the following cosmetic problems:

  • Chipped teeth
  • Worn and/or jagged teeth
  • Small spaces or gaps between the teeth
  • Teeth that are misshaped or uneven in size
  • Minor crowding or misalignment of the front teeth
  • Staining or discoloration that doesn’t respond to professional teeth whitening

The procedure, which typically takes two to three visits for a cosmetic dentist to complete, leaves patients looking and feeling completely refreshed.

What are Lumineers?

An alternative to veneers, Lumineers allow patients to revamp their smile in a less invasive manner. Because they are thinner than veneers (similar in thickness to a contact lens), Lumineers don’t require any enamel removal. However, the custom-designed fixtures are still strong and durable and able to improve the appearance of slightly crooked, misaligned, stained, cracked, chipped or gapped teeth.

Like traditional veneers, the process usually takes two visits to complete. Bite impressions and measurements are taken at the first visit, and the Lumineers are placed at the second appointment, leaving patients with a brand-new smile.

Are Lumineers Right for You?

If your cosmetic flaws are less pronounced, you may be a good candidate for Lumineers. You may also consider this route if you don’t want permanent changes made to your teeth.

Making the Right Choice

When you visit a cosmetic dentist in Murphy, you’ll undergo a smile assessment. You’ll also be able to give input on the type of look you desire. The cosmetic dentist will take all the details into account to make a professional suggestion. Ultimately, you’ll have the final say in the direction that is taken.

By taking the initiative to schedule a visit, you can receive all the pertinent information you need. Whether you choose veneers or Lumineers, you can rest assured that you’ll be more confident and happier, with a magnetic smile!
